The Ultimate Google Keyword Planner Tool Hack

I recently found a way to legally hack into the

Google Keyword Planner tool…

You may be wondering…

Why on earth I would want to do that.

Well, if you’re into affiliate marketing you know that recently

mighty ‘ole Google changed policies

inside the Google Keyword Planner Tool.

That’s Right!

Whereas before you’d get results like these…when doing keyword research

gkt-22
You now get results like these….

gtk24

According to Google you should have an active Adwords campaign running to be able to use the Keyword Planner, and continue to see the previous stats,

…and we all know how costly those campaigns can be.

gkt23

Fortunately there is a little hack that will allow you to continue checking out those keyword research stats without spending a dime!!

Before we dive in though,ย  a couple of things you need to have in place…

  1. First, you need an email account ๐Ÿ™‚
  2. Second, you need another email account ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, make sure you have access to two email accounts. Preferably Gmail accounts.

One of those emails should also be the one you normally use to access Keyword Planner with. Not a requirement, but I believe it can make the process a wee bit smoother.

Step #1: Register An Account At Google Adwords Manager

First thing you want to do is head on over to the Google Adwords Manager site.

We will create an account here that will manage all of our Adwords accounts in one place.

Signing up is free. All you have to do is click on that big green button ==> SIGNUP FOR FREE

gama-signup

Once inside, you’ll be presented with a window to fill in all relevant information. This is quite straightforward

Make sure to fill in:

1. The new email-address – this will be used as the manager of your account

2. Give your account a name – eg. Main Account

3. Make sure to tick: To manage my accounts

gtk1

Also make sure to choose your country, timezone and the currency you prefer.

I left mine on US Dollar.

Last make sure to tick: Yes, I agree to the above rules of use

Then click: Save and Continue

That’s it for this section.

Step #2: Grab Your Customer ID

The first thing you want to do is to log into Google Keyword Planner like you always do.

Remember, don’t login with the newly created credentials.

For those that have not done this. Make sure you are signed into Google.

Then navigate to the Keyword planner site at https://adwords.google.com/KeywordPlanner

Once inside, look to your upper right side.

You will see a customer ID and below it an email address.

gkt7

I’ve written “email 2” there, just so that you know that I’ve logged in with a different email address, the second email address.

This second email address could be the same one you’re always using to access Keyword Planner.

Note down the Customer ID.

Once done, you MUST log out of this account.

Step #3: Link Your Google Adwords Accounts

Next log into your Google Adwords Manager Account.

You’ll be presented with a window like the one below. (This is a cut section)…

You’ll be able to identify the account, by the name you gave it.

gtk5

There is a big red button called ACCOUNT with a drop down menu.

Click on the drop down menu…

Then click on “Link Existing Accounts”

gkt6

Next, you want to paste or type in that Customer ID, you noted down.

Click Continue.

gkt8

By now Google has added the existing email, or in my case, “email 2”, to the

Google Adwords Account Manager…

All that’s needed is to request approval…

gkt9

Step #4: Accepting The Request For Approval

Now that we have all of that out of the way it is time to accept the request for approval.

First, you need to go into your mailbox.

This would be the mailbox of the “email 2” account.

You should have an email from Google Adwords entitled

“A manager account is requesting access to your Adwords account”

gkt11

This email will explain to you how to go about accepting the request.

Basically all you have to do is

  1. Log back into the “email 2” Keyword Planner account as below.
  2. Click on the gear icon gear-icon
  3. Select “Account Settings”

gkt12

Next click on “Account Access” in the upper left-hand corner,

Then click on “Accept Request”

You’re almost done.

Phew!!

gkt14

If you’ve come this far without any mishaps, your accounts are linked…

There’s no need to go back into the “email 2” account, and therefore you can retire it for now.

Log out of the “email 2” account and log back into the Main Account…

Remember, that’s the account that you used to open your Google Adwords Manager account with. ๐Ÿ™‚

Step #5: Get Your Keywords!

Your Main Account is linked, BUT…

There’s no Keyword Planner Tool !!!!

That’s because you have to activate your tool through your linked account…

…and how to do that?

…easy

  1. Click on the little red arrow next to Accounts..

gkt17

2. Select your linked account…

You’ll also notice that there is no “Tools” option

gkt25

Once you’ve selected your linked account, Google Adwords Manager will automatically kick you out of the system.

Meaning that you’d have to log in again.

After logging in for the umpteenth time…you’ve finally arrived….

We can now see the beloved Tools option.

gkt18

Click on it and go straight to the Keyword Planner Tool.

gkt19

And eventually….Voila!

gkt-22

Sincerely hope this is of value to you, since I don’t know how long it might take before Google takes this down. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  • Guys! Need help.
Fiirst of all, thank you Abby! The instruction is clear and it worked.
But, it worked for 2-3 days and then it sort of went back to vague volume results. Am I the only one who had the same thing? What could be the reason for that?
I’ve tried to do the same thing again with other gmail accounts, but it did not work any more.
    Thanks

  • Brad

Same issue here. Any fix to this?

  • Hey PaRoth,
Unfortunately it seems that Google changed that loophole
as well. There are still people for whom this works though but for many,
it’s going to be the alternative route.

  • Hey Brad, unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be a fix for this…for now ๐Ÿ™‚

  • Antonio Ferraro

    Hi Abby!
Did you make that video which explains how to use the keyword planner without a credit card?
Thanks a lot and greetings from Italy!
